Saskatoon- Amelanchier alnifolia- 'Smokey'
A fruit known by many other names and one of our favorites! Saskatoon, aka juneberry is a native shrub/tree that produces blueberry-like fruits with almond flavored seeds. The fruit is around for just a short time in the beginning of June and is a favorite food of the birds as well, so keep your eyes peeled for ripening fruit and plant more than one! The alnifolia species is a suckering shrub, making for an excellent hedge with dense spacing. Being native to the forest edge, it does well in both full sun and part shade conditions. Height 10-14' and can reach 26'!
